This short film is adapted from a play by the late great Horton Foote. It is to the credit of the director, Tim Guinee, that there is nothing theatrical about the film, despite the fact that almost all of the action takes place in one room. Camera placement and lighting combine to provide flawless early 20th century atmosphere. Foote’s remarkable ear for dialogue and the perfectly cast actors further combine to produce a triumph that makes one hope Guinee doesn’t limit his interpretation of Foote’s writing to this one film.
