This should not be kept a secret. I am on the fence at the moment as to the policy itself. Part of me hates it, but I realize that I am already kinda hating on Walgreens, because they are talking about moving their corporation to Europe to avoid paying taxes on the income that they will still be making from their stores here. It is a step though in the fight to end our nations opiate addiction problem, and that gets a tip of my hat. But in my opinion, a well written pamphlet should have been given to each customer describing the new policy. Yes we have a lot of junkies out there, but we also have people who are in serious need of their pain meds. To deny them on the discretion of the pharmacist and possibly ban them from their only legal source, does not leave that suffering patient with too many options. I just see where it could exasperate our illegal opiate trade problem and cause innocent patients to expose themselves unnecessary to the criminal element of this. They might make promises. Buy ten pills now, but you have to sell me some of your pills when you get them. That is really not a good alley to blindly walk down. A lot more thought needs to go into the idea, and customers should be a part of that dialog. Something this monumental should not be a secret from the very customers who Walgreens owe their very existance to. doc haynes
