This shows the before and after of Tacloban. What a sight! We need not only to pray, but do compassionate action. We have a way:A Campaign of Compassion “The reality is much worse than what you see on television,” says an eye-witness account of the Tacloban situation after the Yolanda storm surge. “People walk the streets like zombies looking for water, and food. Around 80% of the houses have been washed away. They scamper towards the airport whenever an airplane appears, hoping that it carries food and water for them. They stop vehicles on the streets begging for food.” The scene obtains in the coastal towns of Leyte and Samar. Around 10,000 people are feared dead. Corpses line the streets and beaches. Clearly it is time that we get out of our comfort zone, and show compassion of the kind Christ showed us. We ask you to join the XVD Community in showing such compassion to our brethren in Leyte, Samar, Bohol, Cebu, Iloilo, Mindoro and Palawan. To date, from our collections we have sent P200,000.00 and a container van of relief goods to Bohol thru the SVD Fathers in Holy Name University of Tagbilaran. We are now making arrangements to ship P30,000.00 worth of food to Tacloban City thru the C-130 government service, since it is the only free, safe and secure delivery service at the moment. Caritas Christi urget nos (The compassion of Christ compels us to do this). We continue to ask for your compassionate help. Please bring relief donations to the Shrine Hall, c/o Dante Magdangal (+63917-8228238), in Christ the King Seminary, 101 E. Rodriguez, Ave., Quezon City. For cash donations, please deposit to BDO Acct. No. 228012111, in the name of the XVD Association, Inc. Then kindly text Dante your deposit, stating your name, amount deposited, date deposited, BDO branch deposited, and email address, for acknowledgement and sending of official receipt. We will use your cash donations to buy relief goods for shipment to Tacloban, and to other areas devasted by Supertyphoon Yolanda.
