This situation is easy to make fun of, but I advice anyone with an opinion to actually read the complaint. These mothers love this baby and want to give her a good life. They adore her. But they are a lesbian couple living in an all-white, rather intolerant, community. Their daughter faces huge problems and they have been advised by professionals that they desperately need to move to a more diverse community for the sake of the child. In addition, theres little things that we in White World dont think about - how do they teach their daughter about her history, how do they take care of her hair (dont laugh, as a white woman with black family, it is an issue!), how do they teach her about the racism she will experience? Its actually a very sensitive and compassionate plea on the behalf of two women who want to do the best for their beloved daughter. They recognize that they have a lot to learn. Basically, Im saying that this issue requires careful discussion about racism in America - not snarky headlines from the ever-snarky Jezebel.
