This so clearly wipes away the fog on this issue. I always tell my students, people of color CANNOT be racist, simply because racism includes, as the core of its meaning, the systematic, systemic authority of the hegemonic to enforce racially motivated suppression of the subaltern -- members of the subaltern may be bigots, prejudiced, misogynistic, chauvinistic, or otherwise exhibit characteristics that range from hatred to superiority, BUT, they CANNOT every be racist because as long as the majority of economic and political power remains in the hands of white males, the use of the term "racist" to describe a person of color can never apply. Semantics, yes! However, words have meaning and using them incorrectly (especially when it is deliberate, as in employing the term "reverse-racism") confuses the discussion.
