This song The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden were the two most favorite Mom loved. When she had gotten ill and I would help her to bed, she sometimes asked me to listen to her prayers. And she would say the chorus of the latter song, And he walks with me, and he talks with me, and he tells me I am his own. And the love we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known. We had a bar put over one of the beds in case my brother ever wanted to stay overnight. Being paralyzed, he would need that to help him get into bed and to move in bed. He never did stay overnight, but we had it in case. After Mom would say her prayer and I would give her a kiss. Id stop at the doorway, and she was always looking at me. I would point my finger at her and say, I dont want to come in this room overnight and find you swinging on that bar. The giggle was always worth hearing. As I was walking back out to the kitchen, tears would run down by face and I told myself I was going to cherish every time I put her to bed.. She told me I had cried enough in my life, and not to cry when she died. So I just didnt let see the tears. She was handling so much, was so burdened and ill and didnt enough wherewithal to ask about Dad at the nursing home. Bless my beautiful Mom. I called her by a lot of different nicknames id make up. She looked at me one time and out of the blue said, I like it best when you call me baby. I miss her so, and it boggles my mind to think that Jan 11,2015, she would have turned 100.
