This song was released at the very tail end of 2013, which happened to be a somewhat emotional time for me. I had just ended a bad relationship in which I was very unhappy to be in for quite some time and was not an easy split. The songs lyrics resonate for me in two ways. One being that instead of focusing on the hurt or bad aspects (which were many), it helped me to look forward to what lied ahead for me. The idea that I can love someone and be loved back the way I deserve to be. That was painfully lacking in the relationship that had just ended. This song is a cheerful expression of love and emerging out of a dark place. The other way this song resonates for me is that its one of those rare songs that I fell in love with the instant I heard it. It usually takes me a few listens, but this was one that I knew right off the bat was going to be a favorite. XO is my #3 favorite song of the past year!!
