This staircase looks fairly simple, but it turned out to be one of the most challenging structures I ever built (for its size). What made it difficult was that the upper stairs turned at a 45-degree angle - sounds easy enough, but without a very advanced knowledge of geometry or training on AutoCad, I had to build the concrete forms in a very intuitive fashion. The pour was problematic, the surfaces had to be adjusted to get the right shape, AND the owners insisted on having the treads made from 5 long pieces of cleft flagstone with naturally straight leading edges (very difficult to expedite for various reasons). In spite of all the tribulations that went into it, I think it turned out quite nicely.
