This statement ignores some problems with the distribution of food. For example, within the past few days I heard a report on PBS News Hour that covered the poor nutrition of a 3rd World nation. It said that this country grows an ample amount of food, but much of it is exported because that is more lucrative. Obstacles also exist here in America, a nation which produces more than enough food for its citizens. However, we know that many of them are either malnourished or even hungry. Such a case is the “food desert”, an area in which the only cheap and readily available food is junk food. The nearest sources of nutritious food are so distant that for the residents of the food deserts, who neither own cars nor have access to suitable public transportation, they may as well be on Neptune. Groceries arent built in them because their owners feel they would not be profitable. So, although the food exists, it is not always available to those who need it. As for ending all hunger on Earth, we could send enough food to properly nourish ten times the population of the planet, but if the governments of the other nations dont distribute it, our efforts would be in vain.
