This story by seasoned journalist,Sabir Shah, is strange. It is tryingto influence public opinion on the issue of "Contempt of Court" by citing examples from the world but apart from the brief mentionof Singapore towards the very end (which is not a democracy) allexamples are those where officials or media persons have refused implementing court orders or were obstructing the process of a court investigation. Why The News is trying to misleadthe public on the issue? There are also other reports which are trying to create public opinion in a direction against Imran Khan creating an acceptability for him to apologize and belittling all his concerns regarding the Elections. And these are not Op-Eds but written by regular correspondents of the paper. In anormal civilized country, courts will take notice of such deliberate"misinformation"...We can atleast expect Editors and correspondents of The News to take notice of this policy, wherever it may be coming from.... Babar Sattar had tried pointing out a nexus between "Judges and the Media" which has apparently upset the honorable judges; however honorable judges have not realized that how a particular media group hadconsistently scandalized courts in the past 4-5 years. This needs tobe understood; Newspapers and journalism is for objective reporting and analysis in public interest and showy, overzealous, overboard adulation of public officials and courts is objectionable. This is a clear effort to influence them and amounts to scandalizing the courts. Overboard praise, or"Maska" is not a positive phenomenon; those engaging in itactually have no real respect. Worst of all, they have created an atmosphere where any due criticism, in public interest, is thenperceived as a threat or insult.
