This story happened to my daughter Jenny and myself - I will cherish it always. True story... Jenny had gotten up just as she did every day and we were talking while she had her usual breakfast. She went about her morning getting ready to go to work, we hugged and I told her good bye and to drive safely. About ten minutes later, Jenny came back walking up the stairs opening the front door. I walked over to the door and said, “What’s wrong?” She proceeded to tell me, “Look this dog won’t let me leave the subdivision.” “He keeps running in front of my car, or along side of me.” “So I just turned around and came back home and he followed me.” We both went out on the porch and sat with this big beautiful golden retriever. She had gotten him some water, we both worried he wouldn’t leave, but to my surprise, he did not touch it. He just sat with us on the porch while our poodles in the house were making their usual loud fuss of barking. I told her, “There must be a reason for this dog not to let you leave, when it is time, he will let you go.” She was getting so upset because she was going to be late for work, I tried to comfort her telling her not to worry. About fifteen minutes went by and the dog rose up from next to Jenny where he was sitting and slowly walked down the stairs. He turned looking up at us acting as if he were saying good-bye and he just slowly began to walk down our sidewalk. Jenny and I just stared at each other wondering what was going on. She said she had better call into work and let them know she was going to be a few minutes late so she did. We said our good-byes and she left – again. About fifteen minutes later, she called me on her cell phone and said, “Mom, you’re not going to believe this, there is a really big car accident ahead of me.” “The police and ambulance just now passed me on the road, the traffic is at a complete stop.” “If I had left on time I could have been in it.” We both sat quiet on the telephone for a few seconds, and I said, “See I told you that dog stopped you for a reason.” She started to tell me, “You know when I was leaving the subdivision I watched that dog run up the side hill to the highway.” “He ran up the side hill and disappeared onto the road and when I drove by where he came up he was nowhere in sight.” “Mom he was my guardian angel wasn’t he?” All I could say was, “Yes, thank God. That beautiful golden retriever was a very frisky dog when he stopped her car, but when he was with us on the porch he was very gentle. Nevertheless, when he was ready to leave, he nonchalantly walked down the porch walking down our sidewalk away. As if he had just received, his orders to allow us to go on with our day. Strange things can happen, I know that beautiful dog was an angel sent for Jenny not to be involved in that car accident. We had enough going on in our lives at that time, I know she could not have handled anymore at that time. God only gives us what we can handle, anyway, that is what I have heard.
