This story is so timely for so many reasons.........So I was getting into my car in a particular parking lot just as a lady parked next to me was getting out of her car. I saw her as I approached my car and I waved to her as I had been acquainted with her some years ago. She got out of her car quickly and approached me and said, Ms Somner.....I just want to thank you! Baffled, because she had a tight look of tension on her face, I asked, For what? She continued.....I will never forget the things you said to my grandchilds mother when he was in your school. But she never listened and Im just disgusted and disappointed and hurt at what he has become! (I know by now I had a yikes look on my face)...... She continued....You saw the bad path he was on and you told her what she needed to do to get him on the right track but instead of her listening she took him out of your school. Now hes all caught up and doing nothing - just laying around the house all day. I am just so hurt! I couldnt get a word in edge-wise as she continued Youre an excellent teacher and Ive heard people bad mouth you and say things like you think you know everything. Yeah! yeah! Ive heard em. But you know what youre talking about and she should have listened! Not too many things render my speecheless - but at this point I really was. And I felt every ounce of her frustration. And I know shes scared at what will probably come next for this young man......... If your childs TEACHER is giving you sound words of wisdom and insight regarding your child, quit assuming the teacher is picking on your child!! Remember they have your child pretty much ALL day and will see and pick up on lots of things that you dont......or that you are in denial about. I pray that this young man will somehow someway get on track and not become another statitstic.
