This story was written about ten weeks back but I forgot to share it . FEELING ROBBED 😞 I had come to Lucknow to attend an important post bereavement rite of a close relative. Had planned a six days halt to relax n meet scores of relatives. I had my return tickets for the 10th June . On the seventh I got a call from Shillong that I was required there on the 9th. I cancelled my ticket for the tenth n bought a new one for the 8 th of June . It was a wait listed ticket . I sent a message on whatsapp to my very reliable friend to help me but he opened it too late n I remained wait listed. I recalled that last time I had to board a Rajdhani Express without reservation I had to shell out 100 % penalty. I looked at my ticket , 2 tier AC with senior citizen concession was 1775.00 . I decided to pay the penalty n board the train. When TTE asked for my ticket I showed him my ticket . He looked at it n said this is W/L n not good for travel. I said I know but I have to go n I m willing to pay whatever is due . I handed me a ticket for 7380.00 . I was shocked ! He said the fare will b calculated for the entire length of the route from Delhi to Dibrugarh with 100% penalty. I asked about my 40% senior citizen entitlement . To the utter shock of my fellow travellers he said that privilege is forfeited. I had to pay 4 times my ticket value. My objection was that he knew I boarded from Lucknow n he also knew that I m travelling to Guwahati. Why I was being charged from Delhi to Dibrugarh , entire distance to b covered by train ? Having a non valid ticket doesnt make me too young to b a senior citizen ( how I wish it did ) . I paid the amount grudgingly but felt terribly cheated. To make things worse he said there was no seat n I may have to spend the night sitting in some corner. I cant understand the logic in calculating the fare. If this is the rule it lacks human element n is draconian. A good case for PIL. Will my advocate friends take it up in public interest ? When a passenger voluntarily reveals the truth why shud b treated like a criminal ?
