This strikes me as an interesting proposition and it should have a wider impact than simply helping more people attend college. 1. It should make things a lot harder for the predatory for-private colleges that charge tens of thousands of dollars for dubious qualifications and have very low graduation rates. These institutions are very much the minority but theyre responsible for a wildly disproportionate proportion of student debt and of borrowers who end up in serious financial distress, Good private facilities - the great majority - shouldnt have too much trouble competing. 2. Some people who really should go to trade school but who feel pressured into enrolling in academic courses may now opt for two year vocational courses. 3.
