This summer I had the incredible privilege of taking my entire SQDN to Petewawa, Canada to train with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. In Canada, the entire country is available to use for military training, like Europe used to be in the Cold War. As we roared through the Canadian countryside and maneuvered through towns and cities I was absolutely amazed by the incredible level of respect and honor the patriotic citizens of Canada accord to their Soldiers. Children cheered as we maneuvered through towns, farmers were happy to let us encamp on their land, and housewives brought out drinks for Soldiers as they emplaced a fighting position in their driveway. Every farm and every house proudly flew the Canadian flag--often more than one. The amazing and selfless service and terrible sacrifices of the Canadian Army in Afghanistan and the support of the Canadian citizens is so impressive. So unfortunate that yet another Canadian Soldier had to give his life in the continuing War on Terror, but the proud reaction of the citizens of Canada to his sacrifice is inspiring to all.
