This summer has been one for the books...but alas there is beauty in everything. xRunning a summer program daily with 60+ 8th - 12th graders for the past 5 weeks xPlanning, promoting & organizing #Birthright xMy responsibilities with The Adinkra Group = Maimouna Youssef, Farafina Kan, Adinkra Cultural Arts Studio, and Spyda Thedj x And then there is Life and so much more... I have done a fairly good job but definitely have not been at the very top of my game by far as I and those close to me know I can be. But of all these things, I find and rest in my comfort that my children freaking rock and we did a good job in bringing two more good people into the world Kweku Sumbry being away for 5 weeks at Berklee - last time he was away for 5 weeks was with me in Guinea in 06 - 07. We talk almost everyday and I can feel and see our relationship growing as he enters his 12th grade year (I still cant believe it sometimes) and his voice changes. I can truly say he is handling his business and making us and his family proud. Ama being away for 2 weeks at her Rites of Passage in NYC with her sisters has been new for me too - even though she normally is away for at least two weeks but thats with her grandparents. Talking with her daily and hearing all about what 8th graders should be able to do and just hearing her voice change - man. I couldnt have asked for a better partner in bringing these two lovely souls in the world than Maisha Hyman. Its amazing how I was so clear at the time she was destined to be the mother of my children and I was not wrong. I am forever grateful and thankful to her for many things but none more than my yut. At the time I needed to know if I got killed or died, my soul could rest knowing my children would not be regulated to a Kool aid and corner store diet. Ive never been one to hide my imperfections or pretend to be close to perfect and I am even more thankful that its never too late to stop learning, growing and loving. I share a lot on FB and have been for a long time (Ive been collecting and organizing my statuses from the past couple years for a project and have been reviewing them lately) and will continue too simply because I can. I have never nor am I now looking for any validation, likes, big ups, nice comments or anything really - I just share. Today is no different and neither will tomorrow be. Life is so good for no other reason than having it and at the end of every day when I look around, Im so thankful to my maker for blessing me everyday with such a beautiful life Im really full... #grateful #babadiallo #birthright #timetoshine #themuvement #daheart4eva #tag4life #farafinakanat10 #theothersideofno
