This sunday is the twenty-third in ordinary time of the catholic calender. Personally, I hold much significance to it. It is a blessed day for me. 23 is a lucky number for me in numerous perspectives. It is the date i was baptised. The date i knew and received christ many years back. The very date i met my love. So i am blessed and truly inspired to spread the word. Todays gospel (Mt. 18:15-20) is about fraternal correction.Described by my parish priest as the purest and highest form of true love and forgiveness. I know, unfortunately,of the existence of many christians out there who pay little or no heed to the Christ imposed obligation of encouraging an erring brother to give up his sinful ways.Correcting a brother in a brotherly manner! Christ thought us to be our brothers keeper. Many of us fail on this. There are thousands of lapsed or luke-warm christians who could and would have been part of Christs mystical body if their brothers or neigbours had fulfilled Christs obligation. They are now an impediment to possible acceptance of the faith by non-christians. However, there is no use in crying over spilt milk.Let us see our present day obligations and what we can do to help our neighbours/brothers.Let us preserve the religious fabric. There can be no religious indifference, cankers of infidelity, irresponsibility and other social harms if we grow in faith and charitably correct each other. The future of your children and your neigbours as well as yours rests on how well you fulfill Christs obligation to correct an erring neighbour. Brothers on this day, Christ challenges each one of you to bring a prodigal son back to a loving father and the loving father will repay you a thousand-fold in this life and especially in the next. Blessed sunday!!
