This is an excerpt of the book FORFEITS OF THE SUDAN that am writing about my dad and other unsung South Sudan heroes. FORFEIT OF THE SUDAN. The last time I saw my father was when I was five, he came home in a white pickup, dressed in a brown khaki shirt and trouser.we didnt talk for five minutes, he was in a hurry I guess, but where to ? To his grave? So many rhetorical questions,this questions were answered after a month or two when people started to gather in our home, my mum was at the market where she had as a routine always gone to her little shop and restaurant to make ends meet, when she came home she was escorted to the house, after a few minutes she came out throwing herself up and down, tears in her eyes. My elder sisters who were grown up enough to know what was going on started to cry. Me and my brothers wondered what the heck was going on? My little brother was better off than us he was crying, what is wrong with him, oh! he needed milk? Deep down his instincts where saying otherwise. So what was it? It was the demise of my father, captain Akoi Arok Maketh, even though we were told we didnt cry, death was a new word to us or was it because we were told he was in a better place? Many unanswered questions, he passed on in a Nairobi hospital, he had a liver failure. I tried to know about my father, but he is as strange to me as he was fifteen years ago,the only thing I know now is what he fought for, he and many others fought, he and many others sacrificed, they were rebels, they called themselves S.P.L.A/S.P.L.M. S.P.L.M under the leadership of Dr John Garang De Mabior was fighting for liberation of the people of Sudan , it was fighting for first class citizenship for every Sudanese.
