This time around, however, as I reread the story, a frightful realisation hit me. The suffering in A Tale of Two Cities had found its modern parallel in present-day Malaysia. Are not we, the rakyat, in a similar wretched state today? ISAArent the many rich and powerful getting away with atrocities? Is not false accusation an addiction of the powers-that-be and the lackeys that do their bidding? Are not our brave harassed and arrested for the honesty of their hearts and the divergence of their stand?
