This time around its now Substance Designer 4 thats on sale on Steam. While painter is more focused on the artistic side of texturing and making it easy to use for artists, Designer is much more technical. It is a node based material editor like the hypershade in Maya if youve ever gone deep into that rabbit hole. It is all about weaving multiple nodes and attributes together to create each aspect of the material (diffuse, golss, specular, normal, etc).
