This time last week, I was laying next to Kaleb, watching him - TopicsExpress

This time last week, I was laying next to Kaleb, watching him sleep peacefully, on our last night in the hospital. I couldnt sleep, because I knew that we might go home the next day...and I was worried it was a mistake. I was trying to stay positive as I updated Kalebs page, when a message popped up on my Facebook page. It was a picture from Jeanne Peters, and it was everything I needed to see in that moment. We met the Peters family in Boston, during one of the scariest, most vulnerable times in our lives...Kalebs bi-vent recovery. They were there with their son, Dominique, who had his own open-heart surgery and recovered across the hall from Kaleb in the CICU. We talked to them several times a day, updated each other on the boys progress, voiced concerns, and we grew to care about them quickly. They have a HUGE family, and they came from Vermont to visit Dominique often. From Kalebs bedside, we watched so many loving visitors come and go, and as Dominique improved, watched his parents walk the halls with him. I remember fondly how they would stop to talk to people, and Dominique would ask everyone if they spoke French...because he only liked to talk to people who did. Unfortunately, he didnt meet that many people who did, but it was always good for a laugh. They are an incredible family. We felt how much they cared about Kaleb, and when Dominique was well enough to be discharged, they made us promise to keep in touch. Anyone who knows me well, knows I dont always do that well. ;) But thank goodness for Facebook, weve been able to keep up with each other! Theyve followed Kaleb closely over the past few months, and frequently comment about praying for him and us. The picture Jeanne sent was the first one posted below, of their big beautiful family in matching green tie-dyed shirts. They looked so happy, but I didnt understand why she sent it to me until I saw the second photo. If you look closely at the backs of the shirts the kiddos are wearing, they say Pray for Kalebs Heart. They had those shirts made for Kaleb, and wore them in his honor at a fair in Maine. By the time I saw the 3rd picture, I was crying so hard I could barely see. Thank you Donald, Joan, Jeanne, Dominique, and all the rest of you for being so thoughtful...for praying for and loving Kaleb...for carrying him in your hearts all the way back to Vermont. We are moved beyond words.
