This time last year, my memoir, Leaving Tinkertown was officially released. Its been a remarkable year. I am grateful for the kind reviews in publications as diverse as Literary Mama, Brain, Child Magazine, ABQ Magazine and NM Mercury. I was lucky enough to read at Roar Shack (thank you, David Rocklin), Tongue & Groove, Stories BooksandCafe, Moby Dickens, Barnes and Noble, Bookworks Albuquerque and at Tinkertown Museum and thrilled to be in the good reading company of, among others, Elizabeth Aquino and Helena Lipstadt. I lucked out when I met John Nichols and Stuart Dyson in New Mexico and when I was interviewed by among others, Mary Charlotte Domandi, Megan Kamerick, Amy Beth Arkaway and Cyrus Webb. I continue to be amazed and inspired by the work of UsAgainst Alzheimers, Memory People, Alzheimers Speaks and the powerful energy of Martha Stettinius. It was an honor and pleasure to appear on stage with my brother, Jason Ward. Thanks to generous donations and ticket sales from our two events, we raised $5700 for the Alzheimers Association. The book won the May Sarton Womens Memoir Award and appeared on the American Society on Aging list of 11 Caregiving Memoirs that get it Right. University of New Mexico Press has just done a third printing! It has been a remarkable year and I am filled with gratitude. Thanks to all for sharing your stories about my Dad and for the kind welcome you gave my book.
