This time of year a lot of people start their contest preps for the year and are on the lookout for a good, reputable coach. I did a podcast on what to look for in a good coach, and will link it at the bottom. There are a lot of good coaches out there, but you have to really know what to look for when you start the process of shopping around. To sum a lot of it up (I go into a lot of detail in the podcast) there are key things to look for and make sure you pay very, VERY close attention to: - Good reputation? Or a lot of drama? - Constantly seeing client results? (not just elite genetically gifted athletes, make sure they are getting ALL athletes results since most people can fumble through a prep and get elite athletes some kind of decent conditioning) I dont care how much someone is thought of as a good coach, if they dont have the client results to back it up and to show you, dont waste your time. - Do they hype themselves, or are they quiet and their client results speak for them? Self hype is a sign they arent as good as they need to be, so they talk to make up for it. 100% of the time that is the case. - Will they answer your questions in detail or blow you off? - Price, how much do they charge but what all does this include? (this is HUGE, some that charge a lot hardly do any work for you) - Do they promote that they work with a TON of clients? We work with 400 clients! This is a big mistake working with coaches with too many clients, you will become a number to them and it wont be a good client-coach relationship I dont care how much they tell you it will. A good coach can handle between 50-150 clients and still do a damn good job, anyone with more clients than that I dont care who they are its not going to be their best they give you, period. - Education- what do they have? Obviously if they dont have a PHD they can still have a lot of experience and be self-educated and be a great coach. But looking to see gives you an idea of how they have go to the place they are in. There are a lot of educated coaches who dont get clients results, some of the names in the industry prepping people and you never hear about their placing because its subpar or just average. There are also some who are self educated and their clients are SHREDDED all the time. Then you have people with no education, no experience except the gym and Flex Mag, but they shouldnt even be considered for a prep thats how you get messed up. There are a lot of other points to consider. Just watch out for the coaches out there that try and make themselves appear as a great coach. Usually they will talk about how good they are, but if they were good their client results for years and years and years would speak volumes for them ;) Feel free to share with your friends that are looking for a coach, it may save them from ending up with a bad experience when paying close attention to the homework and research can help them work with a good coach. team-gorman.net/elite-physique-radio-episode-2-choose-good-contest-prep-coach/
