This time of year has always been a festive season, when humankind has celebrated the ending of the dark and the beginning of the light, when the sun would rise a tiny bit earlier each morning and set a tiny bit later each evening. Its because the Earth moves. The Earth should still move us, but weve lost that connection. In doing that I fear we may have also lost our way. Bernard Lown and Evjueni Chazov wrote: “We must convince each generation that they are not transient passengers on this planet Earth. It does not belong to them. They are not free to doom generations yet unborn. They are not at liberty to erase humanity’s past nor dim its future.” Today is Winter Solstice: the beginning of the end of the dark. Let us celebrate and let us resolve to end the dark in whatever way we can. And let us make merry and be joyful. I wish you a wonderful season and the best for the new year. Here comes the sun. -Mark
