This time of year is interesting. People are split (as it would seem on my Facebook feed) 50/50 with depressing statuses about cold weather and stress or super regimented 30 days of thanks posts. I find myself in the second category, but not organized enough to do one every day. However, there are some people in my life that I just genuinely want to take a second and thank for their influence. I find that I suck at telling people what they mean to me, so I say the following in an attempt to remedy that. The most obvious group would be my family. I take them for granted, but they are all freaking fabulous. Easily the group Ive depreciated the most, I feel like I use the goes without saying cop-out too much. It does need to be said: My family is incredible. I dont think I could say this in a more cliché way, but I dont know what Id do without you. When I screw up, you help me and when I do well, you encourage me. I dont know how to thank you enough. Almost identically to my family (except yall chose to put up with me), my best friends keep me grounded, keep me laughing, and keep me guessing. My friends, to call a few of them out, Sarah Rose Hagans, Gavin Pennyroyal Rich, Lexi Marie Long, Hannah Woodard, Sierra Bartlett, Tena Shrieve, Will Tindall, and Jonathan Day, are ridiculous. The familiarity and the similar interest factors are important in founding a friendship, but I think the individuality and acceptance factors play the biggest roles in making a strong friendship. You guys are ass holes, but I love you. You may not realize it through all of the chicanery and casual insults, but I admire you all for different reasons and I cant explain how much I appreciate your individual ability to make me smile. I know no other way to thank you but to try and return the favor. Scouts. I was more than reluctant to join the sea scouts, but I couldnt be happier that I did. Along with being the primary source of my afore mentioned best friends, scouts has given me a lot of opportunities to learn and to try new things. I dont think I ever would have walked the boom without Andy Griswold saying We do wild and crazy things...safely. I cant say I ever would have backpacked without Don Haynes. And I dont think I would have ever done about a third of the weird things Ive done without Gail Beckman and Gina Beckman. Scouts has been a strange and incredible source of learning and growing for the last three years, and I am hyped for the next three. Sidelines has been awesome. You guys have taught me so much by demonstration and by letting me do things for myself. I do not think there is any more effective way to teach someone other than just having them do whatever it is youre trying to teach them and that is exactly what you all have done. Its not only cool that you guys have let me be so involved this semester, but its incredible how encouraging you are individually. Huge thanks to Maranda, Meagan, John Connor, Max, and Dylan for teaching, putting up with, and corrupting (*cough cough* Maranda) me these last couple of months. You dont know how much I appreciate it.
