This time of year is so powerful for me....from my roots, it is the Feast of the Assumption. Words from beautiful Sianna Sherman: Today is the celebration of the Madonna and we went to a special temple to honor Her. The old priest presiding over the church told us a story of how the 2000 year-old icon of Mother Mary has been stolen by pirates a few times and always makes her way back. The last time she was stolen, she dropped into the sea and washed back onto the shore of her home. She always returns. She turned black from the sea, salt, sun and long life. Some say that St. Lucas himself painted her. She is the protectress of Mykanos and lives in the village of Ano Mera in the monastery of Panagia Tourliani. The Black Madonna is an ancient symbol for our modern times and She represents the emergence of the powerful feminine energies being breathed into life once again. May the dark feminine reveal the truth in the midst of malevolence and show us the way home in our hearts again and again.
