This tiny 3.7 lbs puppy is sick. Dr. Hennessey graciously saw today without an appointment specifically for her. We thought she had parvo BUT her test was Negative. Im honestly surprised that she was available for adoption in this condition; maybe this is a lesson learned. This poor puppy had been treated by the shelter. On intake:Shelter comments were timid, but alert and responsive, 9/12. Her fecal test at the shelter revealed roundworms & hook worms. They treated her with Panacur on 9/15, 9/16 & 9/17. On 9/17, the comments said she seemed more lethargic an wasnt eating. Loaded with fleas. Weight was 4.50lbs. They gave her Revolution and moved her into the exam room for observation. They gave her a penicillin injection. On 9/18, they noted still not eating. Hydration seem ok although they had not seen her drink and she was not eating. Still lethargic but when out of cage she becomes more animated. Coughed softly several times. She was given Doxcycline and moved to isolation. On 9/19, she ate some canned food. still lethargic; not much cough. Weight 4.10 lbs. She was given 2 doses of Doxycycline and again on 9/20. Today she has started Metronidazole, Mometamax and Panacur. The fluids will hopefully help with her bad dehydration. The severe diarrhea with bloody stool was made her weaker and sicker. These additional meds will hopefully pull her though this severe illness. Christine Wilson-Villarreal Huestis has bathed her several times to remove all the fleas and filthy from her tiny body. She is so weak. The fleas and worms have compromised her immune system. Thank goodness the shelter did treat her and care for her as best they could. Thank goodness Christine wanted to foster her. Of course, she was isolated from the other puppies in Christines home. We have removed the other fostered puppies as a precaution. This is not what we expected but it is what we will fix. Christine and her husband are wonderful people to give Mia the love and special care she needs. Please pray for little Mia and her foster family. We will continue to update over the next few days and weeks. We are very optimistic. If you want to help by making a donation to our account at the vets office, please do. Mias bill today was only $134.91. The bill has been paid but any donations for a credit balance for future treatments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
