This video is of a Great Blue Heron eating a fish that it caught in Barries Lake in North Dumfries. Residents are opposed to Cambridge plans to interfere with the natural drainage to Barries Lake and discharge subdivision stormwater into this rare and irreplaceable wetland habitat. According to Environment Canada: Great Blue Herons were once subject to intense hunting for feathers, and more recently are vulnerable to wetland habitat change and pesticides that have affected many other waterbirds. Disturbance at nesting sites and destruction of marshes likely continue to threaten breeding colonies.
