While this is true, the oceans are being acidified faster than the past 800,000 years and soon faster than the past 300 M years. Of course simply stating acidity has increased 26% very much minimizes the phenomenal decline of our oceans. The video ends with Can we remain below two degrees? It is possible. But it is up to societies now to decide the future we want. For a likely chance of achieving the two-degree target, societies can emit another 250 billion tonnes of carbon. We burn about 10 billion tonnes of carbon a year. At current rates we will use this budget in about 25 years. One must consider if this statement should not be considered criminally negligent. First of all, we are already committed to a minimum of 2.4C not including feedbacks (2008 - Ramanathan and Feng). Second, the video clearly states we can continue to emit another 250 billion tons of carbon for a likely chance of achieving the two-degree TARGET. The video actually specifies that we can CONTINUE TO EMIT CARBON FOR ANOTHER 25 YEARS and still ACHIEVE the two-degree TARGET. This is madness. We will soon lose the Arctic sea ice at under 1C. This will cause massive ecological disruption with unimaginable consequences. To lead people to believe we can continue to emit is reckless and suicidal. Also gone in 2013 are almost all references to zero emissions. If one recalls, years back there was heated discussion on zero by 2050. Because scientists and governments understood then (and now), the necessity of zero. Today, most all references to zero carbon (at any given date) have all but disappeared. This is all bullshit. It is beyond criminal. The globally accepted two-degree target (translation: business as usual - continue) has allowed the unparalleled planetary crisis of today (that reared its head decades ago) to be accepted by civil society as a problem to be dealt with in the future, rather than today. Thus we have tolerated THIRTY-FIVE YEARS of world climate conferences and now find the apocalypse waiting on our front door-step. We have the United Nations, scientists, governments, global media, corporations, educational facilities, etc. all echoing a two-degree target. This language is then reverberated though the echo chambers of the non-profit industrial complex. Using simple language and steadfast repetition, the acceptance by civil society of this so-called two-degree target represents an unsurpassed feat in modern psyops.
