This video shows that orphan elephant rescues by The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust dont always have a happy ending. In the month of July alone, the DSWT rescued three orphans who later passed away within the month. ILLEGAL Ivory Poaching is at an all time high and is decimating the wild elephant herds of Africa and creating epidemic numbers of orphan baby elephants. Only elephants need ivory!! Risasi was shot in the head and suffered from a severe and complete fracture of his right front femur and had to be euthanized as his leg injury was too severe to recover from. Kerio’s mother was speared to death by ivory poachers and she was left to die. She was found severely dehydrated with a bacterial infection and passed away over a week later despite the efforts of the DSWT veterinary staff and Keepers. Arabukko was found separated from his herd and was dehydrated and suffered from a bacterial infection that left him extremely weak and he passed away a week later.
