After this video was made, the sheriff finally closed the damn front gate, which certainly helped. And he asked the county to spend $384,000 on perimeter improvements. Those wont be completed until Nov 2014, and even then Sheriff spokesman Les Garcia admitted it wont be enough to stop all escapes and contraband. Look, running a jail properly takes leadership skills, but it is not rocket science. This level of totally failed public safety is appalling. AB-109 was enacted in 2011 and yet the Sheriff still does not have a plan that works. $9 million in jail design plans for a $115 million jail we cannot afford and will never build didnt do anything to improve the honor farm one damn bit. Meanwhile our sick veterans are being seen in modular buildings.
