This was a triple-feature day (before things get real again). “Shadows and Fog” (1992), I’ve seen it three times and I don’t like it. It’s forced, shallow, and wastes a good cast; too many ideas for one movie; not ideas really, just themes. Anyway, on to “Husbands and Wives” (1992), hard to watch but worth every minute, another of Allen’s strongly pro-marriage films; but he has no illusions that some people aren’t capable of marriage, however many times they (pretend to) try it. Finally, “Manhattan Murder Mystery” (1993), sure it’s a comedy, but guess what, it’s also very pro-marriage. Solidly. Again.
