This was an appalling deal from day one. 1) Ranked bottom in the tender process but got a nod & a wink from John Key that they could sweeten the deal with gambling law changes. Were awarded the contract because SkyCity said they would fully fund it (in exchange for gambling law changes). 2) Traded away our gambling laws with concessions to extend license to 2048 & massively increase the size of the casino with hundreds more pokies and tables. So while on the surface no taxpayer money is being used, the downstream costs of cleaning up the mess are massive - both for individuals & the taxpayer. These changes were worth hundreds of millions of dollars of profit for SkyCity. 3) NOW Skycity is trying to weasel $100m of taxpayer subsidy for their multi-million dollar profit generating business. And remember point 1 - they were only awarded the contract because they said the taxpayer/ratepayer wouldnt have to fund it. Disgusting. nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11378108&ref=NZH_Tw
