This was how my year ended. The Lord blessed me with a N4,950,000.00 (Four Million Nine Hundred and Fifty Naira) Judgement against Imo State Government. My Client, a limited liability company, supplied the chemicals used in purifying water at the Otamiri Water Works during the Ikedi Ohakim regime. This is why pipe borne water no longer flows in Owerri city. My client borrowed from Bank to do supplies and the Bank seized his collateral. Upon taking over in 2011, this government not only stopped the flow of supplies, but refused to pay vouchers for chemicals supplied in 2009. This government took our client to two different verification panels who investigated his claim, cleared my clients and advised ORO to pay. Yet ORO refused. My chambers was briefed and we sued. The office of the Attorney General came with a preliminary objection that the debt had overstayed the period meant for suing the state government. This is what we call Limitation Of Time in legal parlance. The Judge in his wisdom lambasted them and urged them to go and pay us. The Judge asked the office of the Attorney General why they would not advise this man to go and pay people who worked and deserved their pay. The Judge said they have no defence as all the documents we exhibited showed that they are owing us and their only defence of limitation of time was too malnourished and didnt addressed the issue we raised which is if the Imo State Government was not owing us and if they were not liable to pay. T cut the long story short, the Judge ordered them as follows; 1. To pay us the sum of N4,950,000.00 (Four Million Nine Hundred and Fifty Naira) with immediate effect. 2. 10% Interest per month from 2009 till November, 2014. 3. N50,000 as cost for the pains of litigation. This government is Anti-People. It hates that people are feeding. Rather than pay people for contracts done, he would rather build buildings and leave them unoccupied. Rather than pay people he would rather build Douglas Souvenir, Imo Ecumenical Center, Young Scientist College and many other structures scattered around the city. Yet the Kekes keep clapping. When people work and get paid the economy would be simulated. Barber, Journalist, Lawyer, Brick layer, cement seller, petty market traders, mechanic would all be happy. Everything is not about sharing money. This man has killed the Imo economy and we wont fail to teach him a lesson in 2015. The message to ORO would be.... even though igbaliri.... mana nye ohere ka onyeozo chitu. I commend my junior in chambers Caesar Ekeoma for bringing home this judgment even though I went to another Court the day he argued the case on my behalf and defeated the AGs office. OLUWA WU ENGINE
