This was just posted on a cake page i follow and i couldnt agree more,i have had people ask to negotiate my prices once i have given a price,...... Unfortunately people want lovely homemade, beautifully decorated cakes for supermarket prices! Some people truly cant understand why a home baker cant compete with the mass produced rubbish that supermarkets churn out on conveyor belts with all their buying power. I saw this quote somewhere recently Asking a small business owner to discount their prices is exactly the same as your boss asking you to work the next two days on half pay. Would you? No, then please dont expect small business owners to either. Theres no doubt the current economic situation doesnt help but we have to stick to our guns. Reducing prices and working for less than minimum wage sets lower price expectations for ever more.
