This was just received: Good afternoon family and friends of Wrangler Leesman, Instead of writing each of you individually I thought it would be more efficient to send a group update. I don’t have email contact with Taylor Marino if someone could update him we would appreciate it. The search for Wrangler continues, both on land and at sea, and the weather is improving so the lone Belize Defense Force aircraft should be able to join the search. In addition, although the U.S. military has no forces permanently stationed in Belize they do have an exercise ongoing in the southern part of the country. As part of that effort one helicopter is here dedicated to their use; USSOUTHCOM (the military command with responsibility for this region) has agreed to allow the helicopter and crew to join this search, as long as they’re not in service for the active requirement down south. As we’ve discussed, there is one helicopter company in the country (astrumhelicopters,501 222-5100); they provide a variety of commercial services, one of which is advertised as search and rescue. Although it is the host country’s responsibility to search for missing tourists, private U.S. citizens can contract with the company and they can augment the current effort. We will update you if we receive more information; in addition, I’ll call the mom and dad directly later today. Regards, Ms Terri Meyer Foreign Service Officer U.S. Embassy Belmopan Belize (w) 011-501-822-4011 x4221 This email is UNCLASSIFIED.
