This was often in the past the weekend when we would load the family into the family car and drive around the county on paved and dirt roads in and out of the forests looking for that just right Christmas Tree. We might drive several hours over two or three days while all the kids were out of school for the Holidays, and when we found the right tree, With the land owners permission, we would take the axe and chop the tree and drag it to the road, trim what was needed and load it and several extra branches, often tying it to the top of the car and head home. This just right tree we would soon find out was a bit to tall, or slightly lopsided, or sparce on one side or another. The bottom would be cut level and a tree stand built and nailed and the results were always that our Christmas Tree had to be turned and turned to get the best side showing, Sometimes some of the extra branches would have to be tied to the tree to fill open spots and spaces, but after the application of the many strings of lights, and enough tinsel to cover any and all defects, this tree would take its place of honor in our homes for the next two or three or four weeks.
