This was originally a French country carol; an advent hymn later adapted by an Englishman, J. Crum. It tells the story of the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus, and likens it to the seasons, and to the soul of man who in the midst of despair can feel Love again. More than anything it sings of the living Christ experience as renewal in the soul. My friend Gloria and I filmed for it in the grounds of Watts Chapel, Compton, in Surrey, and I also filmed footages of the ruined abbey at Glastonbury, and of spring nature in Solymar, Hungary. Joseph of Arimathea took the young Jesus to Glastonbury, where he built a meditation hut. The abbey was built on the site of the hut that Jesus used. King Arthur is also reputedly buried at Glastonbury abbey, and there is a connection between Jesus and King Arthur, in that the much sought after Holy Grail is the chalice that caught the blood of Christ on the cross. The inner Holy Grail that the chalice symbolises, is discovering the vessel within that receives the Christ experience.
