This was some good news from out fab SM Michael. We had been collecting monies for Aids at various theatres across the USA. And this lovely letter was sent to him. Dear Michael: I spoke to Tom Viola yesterday, who gave me the news that the Actors’ Fund of Canada is to receive $46,200 of the $92,400 raised through audience appeals at Wizard of Oz performances on the US tour this spring. On behalf of all of us here at the Actors’ Fund of Canada, I want to express sincere gratitude to you and all of the members of the company for your generosity in allowing us to share in the proceeds of your fundraising efforts. By requesting that audience donations be split to benefit vulnerable artists and other community members in need in Canada and the United States, the Wizard of Oz company has shown that generosity and the willingness to help others is a trait common to all of us. The funds you sent will enable the Actors’ Fund of Canada to provide a month’s worth of groceries to over 90 entertainment industry members and their families who are recovering from an illness, injury or other hardship. Because you helped, valuable members of our community will get the chance to bounce back from adversity and return to doing the work they were meant to do. We truly appreciate your support.
