This was such an impressive undertaking, as Nigel Skeet, through his photography, tried to change the communitys perception of our homeless population. Whats more impressive is that hell continue the effort. Friday night’s photo exhibit of 50 of Redding’s homeless won’t be a one-time thing, as reported by Jenny Espino. Skeet is planning to turn his project, “Brothers, Sisters, Sons & Daughters,” into an annual gallery, with new models each year. “It’s something to look forward to, and it’d be kind of interesting if this time next year, there is a new crop of 50. But, why not — why not make Redding the poster child in changing how we view homeless people?” Skeet told Espino. “Instead of viewing them under one giant umbrella label, why not view them as individuals?” The gallery, hosted by the Redding Civic Auditorium, produced a sizable turnout. Among the visitors perusing the portraits were some of the models, their families and friends, and community and advocacy group leaders.
