This was the Avondale home of my Giffin grandparents shown here around 1945. You can clearly see the streetcar tracks that ran in front of the house. The streetcar stopped running in September of 1945 but the tracks were there for many years until they were eventually paved over. In a severe winter some deep potholes will develop in town and you can see that the old streetcar are still there. The boy on the bicycle is my cousin, Dr. William Wayne Giffin, a Professor of History at Indiana State University in Terra Haute, Indiana. Bill, the first grandchild for Billy and Linnie Giffin, was born on 06 Apr 1938 to my uncle, Paul Willard Giffin and his wife, Gayle Marie Trigg. Kneeling by the hedge is my late uncle, Robert Gene Giffin. Uncle Bob was the grandfather of Marissa Melanko, the Shadyside High School valedictorian in 2007. On the porch are other members of my Giffin family. On a personal note I miss the streetcar tracks, the hedges and trees and even the gravel pathways but most of all I miss the love that always filled the Giffin home.
