This week, I spoke before the Chicago Public Schools Board of Education on the need for a full-time nurse at Beard Elementary. chicagotribune/news/local/breaking/ct-cps-school-nurses-met-1218-20141217-story.html Beard serves disabled students, most of whom are on the autistic spectrum, and many of whom have ongoing medical issues that require monitoring. Every school should have a nurse, but if we are going to prioritize resources, schools that serve profoundly disabled students like Beard have the greatest need. I look forward to working with CEO Barbra Bird Bennett, the school administration and parents on this effort until the students at Beard have the type of staff they deserve.
