This week I spoke with a former GMO farmer/rancher and I would - TopicsExpress

This week I spoke with a former GMO farmer/rancher and I would like to share his story. His family has been farming for 50+ years (in the midwest). They used to have quite a large operation. They worked for Pioneer (DuPont). Notice I said worked for. It was a few years ago when they decided to quit working for Pioneer. They had several reasons for doing this: They couldnt rotate Non-GMO and GMO seeds anymore (had to go strictly GMO), biotech companies had a monopoly on certain varieties and wouldnt allow for growing outdated or expired varieties since they are constantly changing and evolving with the seeds they develop (so if farmers found a variety that they like, forget growing it next year), weeds were evolving and adapting to their pesticides, the cost of seeds just keeps going up, and not to mention the amount of debt youre put in by all the regulations in their contracts. Talk about slavery. These were the reasons they abandoned this system and are now promoting and producing organic crops. They sold most of their land and cattle in order to pay off their debt. He said it was worth it for the freedom and they are starting to see how truly awful this technology and accompanying chemicals are for our environment and humanity. I also mentioned that they were ranchers too. I asked him what he thought about antibiotics, vaccines, etc. He said they never vaccinated their cattle and did not use antibiotics at all unless they were dying. They also firmly believed in humane treatment of animals and were always calm and gentle with them. He has a message for everyone and especially the farmers that are trapped in this system: I know it is easy to be angry at GMO farmers, but who you really need to be angry at is the companies that run them. Many of the farmers are slaves to them and feel that they have no choice. They dont care about farmers. They care about money. However, there is hope. But it may take some sacrifice. We made our sacrifices and it was worth it for the freedom. Consumers have got to keep boycotting, GMOs must be labeled, and farmers need to start opting out, for the sake of our childrens futures. Do any of you know a former GMO farmer or are you a former GMO farmer? Please share their/your story in the comments below.
