This week, Lower School science got to work with researcher Dara Ashley Satterfield, from the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology. Satterfield reached out after hearing that our Country Day Butterfly garden has over 40+ tropical milkweed plants, a perfect environment for studying monarch butterflies. Little did she know that she was going to have a lot of help from eager #hornets! Our #savcds students worked with Satterfield, surveying the milkweed plants present to record how many monarch eggs and larvae are present. The SCDS Butterfly Garden is a special place, one that not only offers a sanctuary for butterflies, but for students and faculty alike! Country Day is also proud of the fact that our BUtterfly Garden is a certified Pollinator site, and in 2013, received the Outstanding Pollinator Habitat from Monarchs Across Georgia. All of this has been made possible by the #savcds students who continue to beautify the gardens and share our environmental initiatives!
