This week, President Goodluck Jonathan authorized the Department of Defense to fulfill a Department of State request for additional Arms, ammunition and military personnel to protect our border on the North-East of the country and the people of Borno and its neighboring states. This action was taken at the recommendation of the Department of Defense after an extensive review, and is part of Mr. Presidents commitment to protect our border and the people in Borno as we continue to support the Government in its fight against the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram. These additional equipment and personnel will serve in a combat role against the Islamic combat. The President has made clear his commitment to doing whatever is required to provide the necessary security for Nigerians. The request he approved this week will boost the morale of some previously deployed military personnel to fight the murderous terrorist while at the same time providing a more robust, sustainable security force for our military personnel and the North East border. In addition to his efforts to protect our military personnel and the people of Nigeria, he will continue to support the Government of Borno States efforts to counter Boko Haram which poses a threat not only to Borno State, but to the broader Nigeria. The President will be consulting this week with some bordering countries like Cameroon and Chad regarding collaborative actions to take against Boko Haram and to develop a broad-based international coalition to implement a comprehensive strategy to protect our people and to support the fight against Boko Haram.
