This week Q and A on another contributor of the Singapore sketchtravel book Patrick Ng. Enjoy his interview! Look out for the next contributors interview next week. 1.Can you do a short introduction of yourself ?What do you do ? - I was involved in music full-time for 15 years, before going to pursue my Master of Arts in a Bible College the last 4 years. Im in between assignments right now, so Im unsure whats next yet. But I hope to be more involved in the arts, thats for sure. 2.What inspired you to sketch in the first place? - Id always sketched as a kid. I would grab every opportunity to draw everything I could get my hands on — non-fiction books from the library, Hong Kong martial arts comics, etc. Then I stopped for over 2 decades cos of my work in music. It was in 2011, when I was going through a really stressful time (almost depressive) that I stumbled upon USK-SG from a friend. I decided to join in the fun just to look see look see, and attended my first sketchwalk in Aug 2011. The rest was history. Art was very instrumental in my healing process, and also in the process made a lot of good friends who are equally passionate about it. Ive not stopped sketching since, and dont plan to, ever. 3.Why do you draw this particular piece for the Singapore sketchtravel book ? - Id actually walked around my neighborhood looking for good scenes to capture. Id actually wanted sketch the garden scene from downstairs, but it rained the afternoon I was planning to sketch. So I end up going back upstairs and sketch the city view just outside my bedroom window. Its a sketch of the Ulu Pandan skyline. Decided to use my artistic license and make it a sunny scene based on memory of the place around 4-5pm nearing sunset. 4. What are the art tools you used for this piece? - I usually sketch direct with my Hero 578 fountain pen with Noodlers ink, but because of the importance of this project to me, I decided to be more cautious and did a rough 5.What memories does your neighbourhood hold for you? 6. Whats the hardest thing to draw for you? - Night scenes and facial features of people, especially with watercolor. Its something I need to overcome. 7. Whats the easiest thing to draw for you? - Urban landscape. And I enjoy doing it.
