This week a colleague and I went on a trip whose primary goal was to sell a few ambulances to a fire dept. The company was going to fly us out to NJ where we were to wine and dine our clients but we opted to take a few days off from our day job and drive instead. We visited many states along our path, did a bit of geocaching, ate some amazing food, and saw some sights. I already posted shots of the Space Shuttle Discovery, but here are a few others. Some of these shots come from the Smithsonian and others come from NYCs Hayden Planetarium and Natural History Museum. If you have never been, please go! Its fantastic. I spent 4 hours in there. My favorite rooms primarily were the meteorite and mineral collections followed closely by the Dinosaurs and the human evolution exhibit. I took hundreds of photos so it was hard to pick a few to show you guys. Hopefully you enjoy them. In the following you will see: The Willamette meteorite, a 15 ton found in Oregon. The suit worn by Lunar Module pilot James Irwin on the moons surface on Apollo 15. The Enola Gay which was flown by Col. Tibbets and dropped the A-Bomb on Hiroshima. Widmanstätten patterns found on a large meteorite. Widmanstatten patterns are formed by interwoven bands of kamacite and taenite, which can only form over literally millions of years of very slow cooling. A SpaceLab module from the ESA. The Ritchey Mirror Grinding Machine used to polish mirrors for telescope making. A duplicate of the Sounds of Earth record flying aboard Voyager II right now. Mercury Capsule Freedom 7 II. The Mobile Quarantine Facility that housed the Apollo 11 astronauts upon their return to earth. The Concord. Felix Baumgartners capsule from his High Altitude jump. And a few shots of NYC.
