This week a new Stateline profiles Oklahomas Endeavor Games, revealing the stories of triumph and inspiration as amputees, those with cerebral palsy, blindness, and wheelchair bound athletes of all ages compete for gold in a wide range of events. Held each year by the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, the UCO Endeavor Games serve as a qualifying event for U.S. Paralympic Team eligibility and as a place where seasoned athletes can mentor children and the newly disabled such as veterans. The special follows three Oklahoma athletes as they go for gold, including the current discus world record holder and Paralympic gold medalist Jeremy Campbell, 16-year-old Kirstie VanBecelaere from Jenks who dominates on the basketball court and four-year-old Ryder Gibson who hasn’t let spina bifida stop him from winning 17 gold medals.
