This week an Air Force Band Bugler perfomed the Last Post for the funeral of Air Marshal Sir Charles Frederick Read, KBE, CB, DFC, AFC - Chief of Air Staff from 1972 to 1975. This week we also came accross this poem by J. B. McKenzie (ex- RAAF Airman). It seems a fitting poem: WITH EAGLES He lived, he loved, he laughed and sometimes cried. He wore a uniform of blue, the same as I. And war-machines of beauty spanned the air Beguiling in their flight, with eagles there. Now they have gone, and empty skies of blue Look down on me, and I am lonely too. For he has gone, but still his spirit high Above the world soars yet accross the sky. And waits, until once more our kindred souls Shall re-enact the days when we were bold. From MY UNIFORM OF BLUE - Wartime Reflections (in verse) J. B.
