This week at BNI Cheshire Dorothy Karska-Piech a Realtor with Calcagni Associates here in Cheshire gave a 10-minute presentation on how she got into the world of real estate. Dorothy was born in Poland and after coming to the U.S., happenstance intervened in her life in a most unexpected way. While taking an ESL course to work on her English, Dorothy had a conversation with her instructor where he recommended she go into real estate. She had surpassed the expectations in the course and he recognized her drive and enthusiasm and felt it would be a good fit for her. Dorothy enrolled in a real estate course, passed the exam and when an opportunity at Calcagni opened, she went for it. For six months she had no business. Having only been here in the U.S. for a short time, she did not have an extensive network of family and friends nearby through who she could get her real estate network started. By a stroke of luck, a friend from Poland was moving to the area and asked Dorothy for her help – just when Dorothy was beginning to wonder if real estate was right for her. Now, 14 years later, Dorothy is Calcagni’s top seller. She’s won 27 achievement awards and has closed on 17 home sales just in this past quarter alone!
